Building Inclusive Classrooms: The Role of ALTs in Supporting Diverse Learners

Teaching is rooted in inclusion and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students. This session will examine common types of special needs, associated behaviors, and effective communication and support strategies. Participants will also learn how ALTs can foster a more inclusive and positive classroom environment.

Sydney Karr is an experienced educator with a background in teaching English in South Korea, serving as a paraprofessional aide and special education teacher in the United States, and currently working as an Assistant Language Teacher for the JET Program in Japan. She holds a Texas teaching license and a TESOL certification, and is pursuing a master’s degree in Teacher Leadership with a specialization in ESL.
